we want to thank the many members of faith who came over to help with the cleanup of the flood damage this week, including those who had water in their own homes to deal with. The lower level of the church sustained substantial water damage after the torrential rains on June 13. The water line on the entry doors near the Fellowship Hall was about 15" above the ground. There was water in the entryway, water in the Fellowship Hall, the kitchen, and storage closets. In addition, a second flood hit the lower east wing, with water coming in from the outside courtyard near the bell tower. It leaked into the classrooms, then spilled into the hallways, the old kitchen, and the north restrooms. All throughout the lower level, we were able to remove quite a bit of the water from the carpets immediately, then went back later to shampoo and clean them properly, as well as clean other areas and strip and rewax some of the entryway floor. Dean Pearce did some fast work on Wednesday before the second storm to clear out some gutters and direct water away from the bell tower. Again, thanks to everyone who has helped with this cleanup.

FIRST COMMUNION CLASS
At Faith Lutheran Church, we welcome all who have been baptized to the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. To help young children prepare for this, Pastor Rehwaldt will offer a First Communion Class for any parents and children who would like to take part. The age of the child is irrelevant—the desire to take part in the meal that Christ offers us is what matters. If you are interested, please speak with Pastor Rehwaldt. The introductory Confirmation Class will be held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the library.

Do You Know a Neighbor in Need?
Do you know of a local family who has suffered a loss and could use a few home-cooked meals? Or maybe you know of a shut-in whose yard needs raking? In Faith’s efforts to extend a hand to our immediate community in Prairie Village, the Community Outreach Board would like to help, one small project at a time. Sometimes needs like this go unknown in a community like ours, so David Hellwege hand-crafted an elegant b ox made from pear wood with a slot in the top where you can drop written notes with ideas. Look for it on top of our Community Outreach Chest in the narthex. Our members cannot tackle every local hardship. However, knowing where and what the needs are will help Faith connect with our neighbors. Our dedication to service is city-wide and is a special trait of our church. It would be a shame to overlook unmet needs that may be just down the street.
